How to stop spam and robocalls on Android

Robocalls are relentless, but you’re not powerless. The most effective approach combines call blocking, a do-not-call registration, and simply not engaging. Here’s what the FTC and FCC recommend, adapted for Android.

Use call blocking and labeling

The FTC’s top tip for mobile phones is to use a call-blocking app, which uses crowd reports and call data to predict which calls are likely scams and either block them or label them “spam” on your screen. Android’s built-in caller ID & spam protection does some of this; a dedicated app does more.

This is exactly what Klear’s caller-ID and spam signal are for — flagging numbers the community has reported before you pick up.

Register with the Do Not Call Registry

In the US, you can add your number to the National Do Not Call Registry for free at donotcall.gov. It stops legitimate sales calls from companies that follow the law — but it won’t stop scammers, who are already breaking it.

Don’t engage, and report

If a robocall gets through, hang up. Don’t press numbers to “opt out” and don’t follow callback instructions — that just confirms your number is live. Report unwanted calls to the FTC so the data improves everyone’s blocking.
