Klear vs Hiya

A solid caller-ID and spam-blocking specialist — but it doesn’t offer user-initiated call recording, and its privacy policy leaves room to share de-identified data with third parties.

Hiya (the Spam Blocker & Caller ID app — not the separate Hiya AI Phone assistant) focuses on caller ID, spam blocking, call screening, and AI voice/deepfake detection. It doesn’t let you record your own calls — its Call Screener does process caller audio and live transcripts to screen incoming calls, but that’s not the same as recording a conversation on demand. Its Premium tier, $3.99/month in the US as of mid-2026 (pricing varies by region), removes ads and adds a larger, more frequently updated caller-ID database plus more advanced automatic spam blocking. Klear covers the same caller-ID and spam-blocking ground for free and adds free call recording, on-device transcription, a recording-laws checker, and blur/reveal privacy for unknown callers.

Là où Hiya est bon

Hiya is a genuinely mature caller-ID and spam-blocking specialist, backed by carrier partnerships and real-time AI voice/deepfake detection that Klear doesn’t have. If caller ID and spam blocking are all you need and call recording isn’t a priority, Hiya is a well-supported option.

Là où Klear est différent

Hiya doesn’t let you record a conversation on demand, so if you ever need to record a call you’re reaching for a second app regardless — its Call Screener processes caller audio to screen incoming calls, but that’s a different feature. Klear covers the same caller-ID and spam-blocking ground for free, adds free call recording with on-device transcription, a recording-laws checker, and blur/reveal privacy for unknown callers, and its privacy policy doesn’t reserve room to share de-identified data with third parties for marketing or research.

Aucun service d'accessibilité

Android’s accessibility APIs exist for screen readers and assistive tech — granting one lets an app read everything on your screen and watch every tap. In May 2022 Google banned using the accessibility service to record calls, so apps built on it lost recording on their Play Store versions and now rely on side-loaded helpers anyway. Klear never asks for accessibility access: the Hust helper opens a privileged audio path over wireless debugging, so you get reliable recording without handing an app the keys to your whole screen.

Questions

Does Hiya record calls?

Not on demand. Hiya: Spam Blocker & Caller ID focuses on caller ID, spam blocking, and call screening — its Call Screener does process caller audio and live transcripts to screen incoming calls, but there’s no feature to record a conversation you choose to have. (Hiya also publishes a separate app, Hiya AI Phone, that adds call transcription and summaries, but it’s a distinct product from the Spam Blocker & Caller ID app this comparison covers.) Klear combines caller ID, spam blocking, and free on-demand call recording in one app.

Does Hiya sell my data?

Hiya’s app privacy policy doesn’t contain a "we do not sell your data" clause — that language appears in Hiya’s marketing material, not the policy itself. What the policy does say: your personal call logs and spam reports may keep being processed after you uninstall, "strictly for statistical purposes," and per the policy are "not... shared with any third parties." Separately, Hiya "may share aggregated, de-identified information... with third parties for marketing, advertising, research, or similar purposes." Klear’s community spam signal never shares names outside the app.

What does Hiya Premium add?

Hiya Premium ($3.99/month or $24.99/year in the US as of mid-2026; pricing varies by region and changes over time) removes ads and adds a larger, more frequently updated caller-ID database plus more advanced automatic spam blocking. Klear’s caller ID, spam blocking, and call recording are free without a subscription.
